CES 2012 starts on Monday January 9th and there’s certain to be a lot of new laptops and ultrabooks announced and shown off. We’re going to keep a constantly updated list of those laptops right here. Many of these laptops won’t be released until Spring of 2012 due to the fact they are aligned with the new Intel Ivy Bridge processor family release set for April 2012, release dates are noted next to each laptop.
Acer
- Acer Aspire S5 - The world’s thinnest ultrabook (according to Acer) at 0.59″ thick and only 2.97lbs. The Aspire S5 will have a 13.3″ screen, Intel Ivy Bridge processor and Intel HD4000 graphics. It will have USB 3.0, ThunderBolt and HDMI ports for excellent I/O options.
- Acer Aspire Ultra 14″ – A thin and light 14-inch Ivy Bridge equipped laptop with optical drive
- Acer Aspire Ultra 15″ – A thin and light 15-inch Ivy Bridge equipped laptop with optical drive
Asus
- Asus Transformer Prime 3G – The 10” screen Asus Transformer Prime tablet to notebook convertible will get a 3G edition in March and be shown at CES next week.
- Asus UX21 – The already available Asus UX21 is getting updated with an Elan touchpad, updated drivers to improve resume and standby and new Rose Gold and Hot Pink color options.
- Asus UX31 – The already available Asus UX31 Zenbook is getting updated with an Elan touchpad, updated drivers to improve resume and standby and new Rose Gold and Hot Pink color options.
- Eee PC Flare 1025C netbook – The Eee PC Flare 1025C is a 10.1” screen netbook with 1,024 x 600 resolution that comes with an Intel Atom N2600 1.6GHz dual core processor, integrated Intel graphics, 1GB of memory (yes, that’s it), 0.3 MP web camera, 3 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, SD slot and of course Wi-Fi 802.11. The weight is only 2.7lbs and battery life is quoted as 10 hours! Windows 7 Starter will be the OS and pricing starts at $299.
- Eee PC Flate 1025CE netbook – The Eee PC Flare 1025CE is a 10.1” screen netbook with 1,024 x 600 resolution that comes with an Intel Atom N2800 1.86GHz dual core processor, integrated Intel graphics, 1GB of memory, 0.3 MP web camera, 3 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, SD slot and of course Wi-Fi 802.11. The weight is only 2.7lbs and battery life is quoted as 10 hours! Windows 7 Starter will be the OS and pricing starts at $319.
- Eee PC Flare X101CH netbook – The Eee PC Flare X101CH is a 10.1” screen netbook with 1,024 x 600 resolution that comes with an Intel Atom N2600 1.60 GHz dual core processor, integrated Intel graphics, 1GB of memory, 0.3 MP web camera, 3 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, SD slot and of course Wi-Fi 802.11. The weight is only 2.3lbs and has a smaller 3-cell battery than the 1025C model. Windows 7 Starter will be the OS and pricing starts at $269, it will be available in February 2012.
Dell
- Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook - The XPS 13 Ultrabook comes with an Intel Core i5 / i7 processor and is a mere 0.24-inches thick at the front and slopes to 0.71-inches at the back. It weighs 2.9lbs and has a USB 3.0, USB 2.0, mini DisplayPort and headphone port. The body is constructed of a tough carbon fiber material and lid is made of aluminum. Pricing starts at $999 and availability is slated for February 2012.
Gigabyte
- Gigabyte T1006M Convertible Tablet – A tablet to laptop convertible Windows 7 10.1-inch netbook with a swiveling 1366 x 768 screen, with USB 3.0 and an antenna for cellular data
HP
- HP Envy 14 Spectre (Envy 14-3000) – The Envy 14 Spectre is a 14-inch screen ultrabook that has a unique glass lid and Gorilla Glass screen to protect from scratches. The Envy 14 Spectre uses an Intel Core i5 processor (Sandy Bridge), 128GB mSATA SSD, 4GB of RAM and will be available in February 2012 starting at a $1,399 price with those specs.
Lenovo
- Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga – The IdeaPad Yoga is a 13.3″ laptop to tablet convertible that will run Windows 8 and come equipped with an Intel Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor.
- Lenovo U300e – A cheaper version of the IdeaPad U300s ultrabook with a 500GB HDD and 32GB of flash storage. Will be equipped with Intel Ivy Bridge platform.
- Lenovo IdeaPad U310 – 13″ screen Ultrabook update to the IdeaPad U300s,1366 x 768 resolution, an eight-hour battery, Intel WiDi and a choice of Intel Core processors. Includes an extra USB 3.0 port relative to U300s and also has an SD card slot. Option of 500GB HD or 64GB SSD. Weight is 3.7lbs. Pricing starts at $699.
- Lenovo IdeaPad U410 -14″ screen Ultrabook,1366 x 768 resolution, an eight-hour battery, Intel WiDi and a choice of Intel Core processors. Includes an extra USB 3.0 port relative to U300s and also has an SD card slot. Option of 500GB HD or 64GB SSD. Weight is 4.2lbs. Pricing starts at $699.
- Lenovo IdeaPad Y480 – Intel Ivy Bridge equipped 14″ laptop with optional Nvidia 650m dedicated graphics making this a gaming capable portable laptop.
- Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 – Intel Ivy Bridge equipped 15.6″ screen 1080p laptop with Nvidia GTX 660M graphics.
- Lenovo S200 – The IdeaPad S200 is an 11.6-inch screen mini laptop (aka netbook) that is 0.81 inches thick and weighs only 2.8lbs. Equipped with an Intel Atom dual core processor and 32GB SSD.
- Lenovo S206 – The IdeaPad S206 is an 11.6-inch screen netbook that is 0.81 inches thick and weighs 2.8lbs. Equipped with an AMD Fusion processor and 32GB SSD.
- Lenovo G480 – Budget level 14-inch screen laptop with up to Intel Core i7 Intel Ivy Bridge processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT630M graphics. Pricing will start at $399.
- Lenovo G580 – Budget level 15.6-inch screen laptop with up to Intel Core i7 Intel Ivy Bridge processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT630M graphics. Pricing will start at $499.
- Lenovo G780 – Budget level 17-inch screen laptop with up to Intel Core i7 Intel Ivy Bridge processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT630M graphics. Pricing will start at $599.
- Lenovo Z480 – 14-inch screen Intel Ivy Bridge equipped laptop with up to Intel Core i7 and Nvidia dedicated graphics. The Z series is meant as a home multimedia entertainment laptop an has Dolby Home Theatre V4 enhanced audio. Available in April of 2012 and starts at $599.

- Lenovo ThinkPad T430u – An ultrabook version of the popular T-series that will include an Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor, Nvidia graphics and a 14-inch screen.
- Lenovo ThinkPad S430 – The ThinkPad S430 is a thin and light laptop at only 0.8” thick. It will have the 3rd generation Intel Core i5 processors. The S430 is targeted at small business buyers and will be available starting at $749 in the Spring of 2012.
- Lenovo ThinkPad E430 – Think ThinkPad E430 replaces the current popular ThinkPad Edge E420. Design remains much the same but the processor gets updated to Intel Ivy Bridge and the new USB 3.0 port makes an appearance. Pricing will start at $499.
- Lenovo ThinkPad E435 – The ThinkPad E435 is the same in everyway as the E430 in terms of design except it uses but instead of using Intel inside the AMD Fusion APU is used.
- Lenovo ThinkPad E530 – The ThinkPad E530 replaces the current popular ThinkPad Edge E520. The E530 will be updated with the new Intel Ivy Bridge platform. The ThinkPad E530 offers a 15.6” screen and is a desktop style replacement laptop, it has a built-in number pad and trackpoint.
- Lenovo ThinkPad E535 – The ThinkPad E535 is the same in every way as the E530 in terms of build, but instead uses the AMD Fusion APU.
- Lenovo ThinkPad E130 – The ThinkPad E130 is an 11.6” netbook like laptop that will have Intel’s 3rd Generation Core i3 processors. The E130 will be available starting in April 2012 in select world markets.
- Lenovo ThinkPad E330 – The ThinkPad E330 is a 13.3” netbook like laptop that will have Intel’s 3rd generation of Core i3 processors. The E330 will be available starting in April 2012 in select world markets.
- Lenovo B480 – The Lenovo B480 is a budget style small business laptop that will start at a mere $399. It will have a 14” screen and come equipped with an Intel Celeron or Core i3 processor.
- Lenovo B580 – The Lenovo B580 is a 15” screen budget small business laptop that will start at $399. It will have a no frills design and come equipped with an Intel Celeron or Core i3 Processor
- Lenovo ThinkPad T430 – (Not officially announced, but expected to be) The ThinkPad T430 will be the update to the current ThinkPad T420. As you would expect the T430 will include the Intel Ivy Bridge processor platform and a 14.1” screen with hi-resolution options. The magnesium-alloy case will remain the same, don’t look for too many changes to the already tried and true formula the T420 uses.
- Lenovo ThinkPad T530 – (Not officially announced, but expected to be) The T530 will simply be a bigger 15” screen version of the ThinkPad T430. Ditto on all of the above!
- Lenovo ThinkPad X230 – (Not officially announced, but expected to be) The X230 is the ultraportable ThinkPad that’s not an Ultrabook but still weighs almost the same as an Ultrabook (and is more powerful). The X230 will use Intel’s Ivy Bridge and have a 12.5” screen the same as the current X220.
- Lenovo ThinkPad W530 – (Not officially announced, but expected to be) The W530 will replace the current W520 in Spring of 2012 and get the refreshed Intel Ivy Bridge platform. The W530 is a workstation style laptop offering dedicated graphics and a high resolution 15” screen.
LG
- LG A540 – 15.6-inch screen laptop with Full HD display capable of glasses-free 3D. It’s powered by a second generation i7 processor, supplemented by an Nvidia GeForce GT 5555M graphics card.
- LG P535 – A 15.6-inch screen laptop with 3D technology, Nvidia GeForce GT graphics, and a brushed aluminum build. Weighs 4.85 lbs and is around 1-inch thick.
- LG Z430 – Slim 14″ screen laptop, SSD storage offering fast boot times of 12-seconds, Intel Sandy Bridge processor.
MSI
- MSI GT783R - The MSI GT783R is a gaming laptop with the powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX580M card backed by 2GB GDDR5 of VRAM. The GT783R has a 17.3″ screen and 1920 x 1080 resolution and comes equipped with the Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge Quad Core processor. The GT783R is a beast to say the least, it supports up to 32GB of memory, 2 hard drives, optional SSD and optional Blu-Ray. All this doesn’t come cheap though, PowerNotebooks.com is selling the GT783R-658 starting at $2,300.
- MSI GT685 – The MSI GT685 is essentially a 15-inch version of the 17-inch GT783R but scaled down. It has the same Nvidia GTX580M graphics, Intel Core i7 processor and option for dual hard drives.
Samsung
- Samsung Series 5 Chromebook 2012 - Samsung is updating their Series 5 Chromebook in 2012 to include a new lid that’s more sedate, 12″ screen with 300 nits of brightness, an Intel Celeron processor, 16GB SSD storage. Release date will be April 2012 and pricing will start at $399 for the Wi-Fi only model.
- Samsung Series 5 13” Ultrabook – The new Series 5 13” laptop will have a 1366 x 768 resolution display, Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSD option or standard 500GB HD with 16GB of express cache for fast boot up. The weight will be 3.5lbs and pricing will start at $899 when it’s available January 30th.
- Samsung Series 5 14” Ultrabook – The new Series 5 14” laptop will have a 1366 x 768 resolution display, Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSD option or standard 500GB HD with 16GB of express cache. The weight will be 3.95 pounds. Ports include Ethernet, HDMI, USB 3.0, two USB 2.0 ports and an SD card reader. Sounds more like a regular laptop than an ultrabook with that amount of ports and weight!
- Samsung Series 9 13” Laptop (2012) – The Samsung Series 9 has been redesigned for 2012, the 13” model now weighs 2.5lbs and is a mere 0.5” thick, it comes with an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. Battery life is rated at six hours and the keyboard is backlit.
- Samsung Series 9 15” Laptop (2012) – The Samsung Series 9 15-inch version has been redesigned for 2012, the 15” model now weighs 3.5lbs and is only 0.58” thick, comes with Intel Core i5 processors, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. Battery life is rated at six hours and the keyboard is backlit.
- Samsung Series 7 Gamer Laptop – The Samsung Series 7 Gamer is a high-end performance laptop targeted at, of course, gamers. As such it comes with an Intel Core i7 processor, 2GB AMD Radeon HD6970M graphics card, JBL speakers, a bright 1080p 300-nit screen and backlit keyboard. Most unique design wise might be the red or marigold yellow lid color options and glowing Samsung logo. The Series 7 Gamer will go on sale in April 2012 and retail for $1,799.
Toshiba
- Toshiba Satellite 14” Ultrabook – Coming in May 2012 the 14-inch Satellite Ultrabook will start at $799. Thickness of 0.78, uses hard drive and SSD. Ports include an SD card slot, three USB ports, Ethernet and HDMI jacks, and a mic and headphones sockets
Vizio
- Vizio thin-and-light 13″ laptop - The Vizio 13″ thin-and-light laptop is an ultrabook like product. It has a 1600 x 900 resolution 13″ screen, Intel Ivy Bridge processor on board and an all silver paint finish. Release date should be sometime in May 2012.
- Vizio thin-and-light 15″ laptop – The Vizio 15″ screen thin and light laptop has a full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution screen and will have the Intel Ivy Bridge processor on board. Release date is set for May.
- Vizio 15″ performance laptop – The Vizio 15″ performance laptop will have dedicated Nvidia graphics and an Intel Ivy Bridge processor on board.
