Samsung is updating its popular Series 7 Chronos line with the new 15.6” screen Samsung Chronos 770Z5E, it will offer a full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution screen with 10-point multi-touch display. This will pretty much be a dream Windows 8 laptop. The design stays the same as older models, that being an industrial look with full aluminum body and brush metal finish. The only downside to this all metal finish is the weight it adds, all that aluminum means that the scales will tip at 5.18lbs – disqualifying this as an Ultrabook despite it’s slim 0.82” thickness.
Despite the under 1” thick chassis, there’s still plenty of room for high end components in the Chronos 770Z5E. Samsung has crammed in an Intel Core i7-3635QM (2.40GHz) processor, AMD Radeon HD 8870M graphics card with 2GB GDDR5 memory and 8GB of RAM with the ability to support up to 16GB. Storage is provided by a 1TB HDD, so Samsung opted for offering storage capacity over the speed of an SSD. In terms of ports you get 2 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0, HDMI, dual headphone/microphone jack, VGA monitor out, Ethernet LAN and a 3-in-1 media card reader. The keyboard is of course full sized and comes equipped with a backlight.
The AMD Radeon HD 8870M and Core i7-3635QM combination should make this Chronos 7 model a formidable gaming machine, no word on pricing as yet but Samsung will be showing off the Chronos 770Z5E at CES 2013 and we should hear further details then.
