Toshiba Satellite U840 Ultrabook Specs Revealed

The Toshiba Satellite U840 Ultrabook has been listed on Toshiba Australia’s website after Toshiba just last month claimed their next Ultrabook style laptop would not be ready until Q2 of 2012 and did not have a name.  It’s a little odd that just 3 weeks later the model has a name, specs and pricing firm enough to be put on an official website, albeit maybe a renegade Australia geographical division, as Toshiba USA still makes no mention of the U840 on their site.  The Toshiba Australia site goes so far as to slap a price tag of $1,500 AUD (about $1,620) on the U840.  This doesn’t jive with the “under $1,000” price tag Toshiba said the 14” Satellite Ultrabook will have when Engadget interviewed them at CES, but this could be a typical case of Australia having a much higher price tag on electronics relative to the U.S. (sorry Aussies).

Toshiba Satellite U840 UltrabookThe U840 has a sleek looking aluminum-body that could suite well as both a business or consumer laptop.  The Toshiba U840 features an Intel Core i5-2467M processor, Intel HD 3000 Graphics, 14” 1366 x 768 LED display, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 320GB of storage.  Available ports include HDMI, microphone, headphone, and USB (1x USB 3.0 and 2x USB 2.0). Being an Ultrabook, there is no optical drive to spin any disks you own.

There’s no word on the exact capacity of the six cell battery, but with the U840 weighing 3.81 pounds you’d hope that means there’s a significant sized battery on board to provide long battery life.   We do know that the lighter version (3.46 pounds) SSD-only model of the U840 has a quoted battery life of 8 hours according to Toshiba Singapore.

The Toshiba Satellite U840 Ultrabook detailed specs are as follows:
